Mayonnaise and Men Kissing Are A No No

Heinz decided to take a leap of faith in equal representation, and make a commercial with two men kissing. While I don't like the idea that it presents the couple in binary roles, I do highly approve of a same gender kiss being presented as no big deal, and just a part of life. Faced with  huge resistance, Heinz has since pulled the commercial from the air. Even though the recent decision in California to allow same sex marriage was a great milestone for gay rights, back lashes like this prove how far we still have to go. It amazes me that with all of the sexist, racist and violent imagery, one consumes on an average day watching television, that a simple kiss should cause such angst and revulsion. People really need to get their priorities straight. Love is never harmful, it only uplifts and causes us to transcend human urges for baser things.

i also didnt like the gender role set up, it reinforces that in gay relationships one is the "man" and one is the "woman"

I think it is hard not to accept that there is normally a top and bottom in gay relationships.

Don't we make masculine and feminine in gay relationships or are attracted to weakness when we are strong and strength when we are weak?

I know that you were directing this comment at queersunited but there really is no such thing as "normal" in terms of social interactions. Remember that sexuality, and gender identification are fluid. Perhaps you should read a little Judith Butler she does some really good work in this area.

I also found the gender role some what odd, I have always thought all were equal, no problem with the ad or the kiss, but maybe America and the the world are not ready for equality.

Do you understand how offensive this is? What are you basing this on?

"Don't we make masculine and feminine in gay relationships..."

No, I never have and many of us don't seek to emulate some of the disparities that are in some male/female relationships.

Interesting. I noticed the mayo is New York deli style so they substituted the female/mom for the male deli worker with the New York accent. Of course everything in advertisement is micro-trended so this was not done by accident. I did not take it they were an actual gay couple though but the agenda was to appeal to a gay audience.

@hearts yes the idea was to appeal to a gay audience and yet they still find into the gender binary trap, portraying one as female and one as male. Though this was not an actual representation I think that the more homosexual couples are normalized i.e in the public view the better chance we have of fighting homophobia.

If you are offended I apologise.

This is homosexual talk in my country. I go to the lesbian ball some years and it is very obvious.

You may not have homosexuals in your country who are upset with the radicals. But I do.

In fact, the homosexuals have been parading down the main streets in the city for something like 12 years. But it was banned last year. The funders won't fund the radicals and yet the main funders themselves are homosexuals.
