This is a commercial that aired in South Africa. I decided to put it up to continue the conversation on the ways in which bodies become and are seen as racialized.
wow. i really don't even know what to say..
Many -isms usually are.
Theres a part of the video that actually shows the slum that black africans were forced off of THEIR land and a highway was built to separate them from the Europeans that settle on the land that they sole from them. Its also good to note that in South Africa the term coloureds was applied to those who are mixed with of mixed Bantu, Khoisan, and European descent (with some Malay ancestry, especially in the Western Cape). And in the USA coloured was applied to mainly all african americans mixed or not.Coloureds (Mulattos) were not given the same rights as whites but still had more rights and were placed over blacks. (Hierarchy). The history of what Europeans did in South Africa ( and everywhere else) is to painful to talk about the amount of cruelty that they still haven't been held accountable for is just pure evil.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid
@Ebony and we thank Mandela for them getting away scot free with his truth and reconciliation program. I am still disgusted to this day that the world praises his government for doing. It is like saying that blacks don't deserve justice and that we should just turn the other cheek and forget.
@It is like saying that blacks don't deserve justice and that we should just turn the other cheek and forget.Renee this is exactly what they want us to do, that's the only thing they have been teaching us to have sympathy for them and continue to believe in a system that was created and designed to keep us out. And to make it worse they use pawns aka certain black men and women to execute these things.
I really like the commercial because it tries to reach and teach the South African's about the hypocrisy of racism.
