PETA'S Favourite Animal Is Pussy

I wrote a piece about PETA requesting that Ben and Jerry's switch to breast milk from cows milk.  As I said in that post, and every other post I have written about PETA, exploiting women is their stock and trade.  They have also engaged in fat hate, racism and trans hate.  Even with all of the evidence of their willingness to encourage isms, and reduce people to the status of  'other,' some people still refuse to acknowledge what a truly horrid organization this is. It is not a matter of simple sensationalism, they are preying on the worst elements of human society to gain attention, and at the same time reifying the existence of isms.

I don't know whether PETA is aware or not, but in their fight to end cruelty against animals, they are hurting animals. Human beings are animals and their campaigns are damaging as they marginalize  members of human society.  They operate like a Fascist organization, cruelly targeting those that they are either unable to use, or that don't fit into their neat little vegetarian/vegan empire.  Though many are quick to dismiss PETA as an extremist group without any power, it would be dangerous to do so.  When groups akin to PETA are ignored the messages that they send out fester, and cause rot and disease within our society.  The best way to fight such hate is to expose it to the light of day, it is to that end that I present a compilation of PETA ads.

Of Course the Olsen Twins are Ugly because they refuse to succumb to PETA's demands.

image image image What more evidence could possibly be needed of PETA'S willingness to exploit women to send their message about animal cruelty. It says that they believe that the only purpose women have in this movement is to supply the tits and ass.  These images are demeaning and reductive.

By posting these images, I am no way negating animal cruelty, but I feel it is important to implicitly state that the tactics employed by PETA, time and time again do not serve the purpose they intend.  People do not become enamoured and suddenly adopt the cause of animal rights, instead they are disgusted by seeing women, minorities, and trans people, face such obvious bigotry.  As long as PETA continues too employ these tactics they will not gain potential allies, they will gain enemies.  They are a horrible reflection on the animal rights movement; as other groups are quickly associated with PETA and dismissed.

The sexist twerps that see these images and get excited do pay scant attention, but only for as long as it takes to rub out an orgasm and clean up with Kleenex.

image

So with all of the respect that you deserve PETA, ....FUCK YOU and your sexist exploitation of women.

Really... It is too late for PETA. Their credibility was lost long ago... To all of you animals out there... Send in a hungry Lioness, or a Mother Bear whose cubs are in danger, that will get humans to think twice about animal cruelty...

Look at this website to see the "darker" side of Peta. If you think taking pictures of some naked women is bad, look at this...

Renee, here's their seriously anti-trans ad that I was talking about the other day.

That Lady Bunny's dirty little secret is why so many people think it's okay to murder trans women of color and juries let them get away with it.

PETA also neglects to disclose that those "Corporate Whores" are quick to take money/donations from big business to turn around and use it on their competitors.

Besides, IMHO, if anyone ever was to compile a list of caucasians that used whiteness as a method of getting to the top, Alec Baldwin would be right there in the top 100. I pity his brother Steven for being related to him.

Meet your meat indeed...

Thanks for posting the link to that ad Lisa. I was unaware of that one. Living in VA I have to put up with these crazy fuckers all the time.

anon@2: That link does not seem to be working. I don't know if that is temporary or not, but you can get the content from google cache.

I should add that the group that runs that site, "The Center For Consumer Freedom" is itself a shill group for the restaurant industry. It would be good to find verification from animal-rights groups as to whether PETA engages in killing animals, as such verification would be much harder for PETA to refute.

As a matter of fact, I feel a bit taken in right now.

Also, I think I am derailing the thread, so I won't say anything more at this point.

Lisa, I just looked at that ad, and my jaw dropped...

I have a post up, though, about how a PETA member I spoke to at the RNC said she felt empowered when she participated in naked protests.

It's messsed up...

Just so we're clear: PETA does NOT speak for vegetarians. So don't let their bullshit take away from legitimate arguments for sustainability and ethical treatment.

You said, "I am no way negating animal cruelty"
except for the fact that you won't even discuss animal issues at all unless PETA's in the room prodding you. Get real, get honest. If you cared about animal issues, it wouldn't take a silly letter to Ben and Jerry's to get you to write about them.

@ANON are you illiterate? Did you not read the title of this blog...WOMANIST MUSINGS...this means it is dedicated to a black feminist perspective and animal rights do no fall within that category. There are plenty of blogs dedicated to animal rights this blog was not created for that purpose. Just because I choose to point out the ways in which PETA demeans women does not mean that I am not concerned about animals. You are making assumptions without proof but then this is how you fringe people work.

@Anon...

I am probably the last person in the world that should even be coming here, let alone commenting, seeing as I am a White Male, which is the polar opposite of everything this blog is about.

Yet even I am half-way bright enough to see that these ads are about as low as you can drag a woman...!

I still have 5 daughters out of 10 children still living at home, and as a Father, I find it horrifying that PETA could use the exploitation of human women to to advance the agenda of animals in the category of "lower life form".

Is this what I want my daughters to believe that their purpose in life is? To sexually arouse the male gender for what is obviously a misogynistic platform of leadership within PETA????

Good God man, why in the world would I want my daughters to think that their gender can perform no other service to humanity, but to be a masturbatory tool for their father's gender????

Am I the only male on the planet (besides Jack of course) that can see that this isn't all its cracked up to be????

This is not true at all. You can be an alley and that is something that is very important. Don't ever under estimate your capability to act in the common good. Once you learn to own your privilege there are so many positive things that you can accomplish and as the father of daughters raising them to be self assured and proud is such an extremely positive feminist act. In fact parenting done properly is an act pure radical political activism. Look at what I did with my son and the racist picture he brought home from school. He is one less person on the planet that is going to walk around thinking that it is okay to marginalize people and if he has a positive effect on his peer group the message will spread. You keep fighting the fight and learning. It is a journey for us all.

Thanks for this post, Renee. I'm very much pro-animal rights, but I think PETA has gone too far. As an organization that supposedly supports "rights," it's absurd the way they display women. This was especially clear to me in the PETA striptease you wrote about earlier this month. At least the idea of "going naked" for PETA as an anti-fur campaign makes sense logically (no clothes = no fur), even if it still is extremely exploitative/sensationalistic, but the striptease (and other similar campaigns use women solely as eye candy without qualms or rationale.

@ LBP

Just to piggy-back Renee, this blog is not anti-white, it's anti-white-supremacy.

Re: talking about animal issues

The psychology of colonialism which keeps oppression alive and well in this country is closely related to the mentality which sees no fault in the torture of animals.

The issues are wildly different and I am not trying to compare oppressed folks to animals; rather, I am saying the attitude of the oppressor is the same: this entity is inferior and exists to serve me.

Food politics are politics of privilege, and I do not think they are as important as anti-oppression work that affects humans. But if we have the energy to look at the issue, it deserves our attention.

Jack Valentine said...

I realize Renee lives in Canada and we have international participation here. So "this country" was not meant to exclude.

@ Jack re food politics is the politics of privilege: Sadly, white vegans use that argument all the time when excusing or condemning poor, misguided colored folk for their meat-eating ways (it is usually accompanied with a chorus "But *I'm* poor and *I'm* vegan). Given that it's no more costly to be veg*n than to be omni and given that people on the wrong side of privilege frequently cross over and extend a helping hand because they can see the oppression other groups face, I'd personally rather stop seeing people equating veg*n with privilege. By that right black women shouldn't expect white feminists to stand up for us either. Besides, what you usually get when you allow that sort of opinion to run rampantly is offensive and alienating BS like this: http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=47514
Between PETA and the "veg*n is privilege" meme, I don't often feel at home in the community. And PETA saddens me. Sometimes they do brilliant work like this: http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/iowa_pigfarm_abuse2
It's things like that that helped me become vegetarian, even though I completely distrusted PETA by the time I became vegan. So I'll admit that hating PETA hurts me a little, because it's like hating the person who made me. Then again, my mother wouldn't trash me to uplift my brother and that's the part that PETA doesn't get.

I think PETA believes that any disadvantaged group they step on to make a point about animals has a voice thereby preventing any real damage or harm from settling in. But to call this naive is an understatement.

Exactly.

Besides, when was the last time Renee wrote about the plight of people of color who work in slaughterhouses, the most dangerous job in America?

The Fitness Diva said...

wow. I had no idea that PETA used such blatantly sexist images on a regular basis to promote their cause. It's abominable. So, it's "save the animals, but hey, let's still exploit women...'cause that's okay.." ? WTF are they thinking?

Danyell said...

I am a vegetarian and I always need to affirm that PETA does not represent me. And no amount of letter-writing or protesting will make them see differently: they are fully convinced that it's ok to oppress women for the sake of saving animals...which it turns out they don't even do that either!

It's not that difficult to be a veg*n & a feminist (/eco-feminist)as they are many correlations between how women & animals have been treated historically and continue to be treated. The fact that PETA will showcase women wrapped up like chuck beef with no sense of irony is kind of astounding...

Really PETA is composed of two kinds of people: kind hearted, short-sighted individuals who joined up with the first animal rights group they ever heard of and are blind to the real going-ons, and crazy, hypocritical eco-terrorists.

Lets say you found the cure for breast cancer. Lets say you know exactly what causes it, and how to prevent it. How far would you go to get that message out, being that you are unable to get past the dairy industry.
Lets also say that the people you want to deliver that message to don't want to hear it, because they love their milk, ice cream, cheese and cant stand the thought of giving all that up just to prevent cancer.

MILK CAUSES CANCER.

Thats why you won't ever see a 'cure' for breast cancer, and why buying pink items is
a feel good action, not a cure for anything.

You won't hear it on the evening news. Your
newspapers won't shout it out. Actually they
can't. No more than they could shout the
links between tobacco and lung cancer.

Be a supporter or not, be a feminist or not,
be an activist or not, just don't let your
children drink milk.

Don't take my word for it, do a little research
for yourself. Quit letting others tell you what
to think.
