In the case that you are referencing the woman had post partum depression. She was in a psychotic state. If she was guilty of murder then so was her husband because he knowingly left his children alone with her.

I read the article. Sounds like there is no proof that the killer knew she was a sex worker when he killed her and no proof he hired her ever. Of course the fact that he killed her but has no previous criminal record is suspect. And the judge's sentence is outrageous. I don't get the 30 months thing. He was arrested in march, 2007...
