I consider nation states as a tool of capitalism. Eliminating them alone does not remove the injustice. The system itself must be dismantled. My pointis that we use borders to create others and thus have a justification for starving people. They don't deserve good treatment they are not one of ours sort of mentality.

I'm not sure how eliminating nation-states would reduce the exploitation of less-privileged people by the privileged.

Looking over the North American Union proposal, it seems that it is pretty much a mechanism for increasing exploitation of poor Mexicans and indigenous people, since it would make it even cheaper to ship goods made by those exploited people to the US and Canada. Not to mention the huge environmental costs of creating these massive 1200-foot wide corridors, the number of people who would be evicted by massive "eminent domain" condemnations, etc.

I have not forgotten whose backs this country was built on this is exactly why I question the need to celebrate. We cannot stand back and blame the British because we were a colony at that time. Who are we to blame for the inequalities that exist today?
My view on a Global day is about celebrating our similarities rather than focusing on our differences. As long as we continue to see ourselves through a strictly cultural and or racial lens we will forever perpetuate a difference that of course leads to inequality.

I fully understand your point of view. Although it is a morbid picture of what happened possibly before confederation. Canadians used to be colonials of the British empire and it was under their rule that a lot of these disputes began. As far as whose land we are really standing on, my question is does land really have an owner other than the creator?

You do make some very good points about the losses of aboriginal peoples in theses lands. However your view on a global day seem very totalitarian and lends credence to the North American Union movement.

It is possible for all of us to unite as one people but there are far too many political and social barriers that we need to cross before that can happen. As for celebrating Canada Day, please don't forget the many people whose backs the nation of Canada was formed on.
